Just back from a delectable meal. So hard to find good vegetarian fayre when you try a new place!
To say Vegetable Goulash doesn't do it justice. Huge chunks of butternut squash, sweet, white flesh of parsnip, orange jewelled rounds of carrot, deep purple squares of beetroot all mixed with small pillows of gnocchi enrobed in a tomato sauce. Topped off with sour cream and crunchy caraway seeds! Yum!
Daughter had ribbons of leek and crunchy broccoli florets between lasagne pasta sheets coated in a mild blue cheese sauce. Accompanied by a crispy apple and walnut salad.
We were full of course but had to sample the treacly ginger cake.... We did share!
All washed down with an apple juice and tequila lager!

The Mistress
He couldn't keep his hands to himself but as she started to remove his clothes there was a knock at the shop door. Jayne quickly retrieved her coat as Charles went through to the front to answer it.
Jayne nearly stopped breathing wondering who it could be then heard a voice asking if everything was alright. It was a police officer on patrol who had seen the lights on! Jayne could hardly contain herself and as soon as the door closed she screeched with laughter. If he'd called a few seconds later and ....
As the relationship progressed Charles was introduced to Jayne's daughter Alison. Then one evening they all went out together to a local city to go on a ghost walk.
When Charles arrived to collect them he brought a fabulous box of hand made chocolates and a miniature box for Alison. What a lovely gesture.
They were to eat first but as the walk was earlier than they thought they ate late, that rounded off the evening well.
Charles often took Jayne for luxurious meals. He always suggested she try different food and if she didn't like it she could order something else.
One weekend they went for Sunday lunch. Jayne knew it was an expensive hotel. She dressed in black skirt and cream lace blouse, a little see through.
Charles loved it.
They were seated at a table and slowly looked around to see a few couples. One whose husband had obviously come straight from church, he was a vicar!

The Mistress
This felt so right.
He caressed her neck and brushed his hand against her breast. Slowly he unbuttoned her blouse, he kissed her lips, her cheeks, her neck, her breasts. He peeled off her clothes an item at a time. He kissed her stomach and continued down her body! She raised herself up to him and gasped with excitement. His Tongue searching and finding all the right places.
She kissed him back exploring his body until their heightened senses could take no more.
When they made love any uneasiness about their relationship left Jayne completely. For Charles this was a whole new experience.
This was the start of many nights of unfettered passion.
One night when he was working late Jayne decided to surprise him. She walked across town and tapped on the shop door. He was shocked to see her but extremely pleased. He just had some paperwork to finish.
He soon changed his mind when she unbuttoned her long winter coat and slipped it to the floor. How could he resist as she stood there naked and inviting!

The Mistress
That night Jayne was on cloud nine, she had been dated many times before but Charles knew how to make her feel special.
At the end of the night they kissed as they had before, the ripples ran through her body and everything tingled. How long should she wait before taking the next step?
Although Alison knew they were friends Jayne wanted to shield her for fear of another failed relationship!
The evenings out were special but she loved the mornings they spent together in a quiet corner of that same hotel eating breakfast.
Jayne was very independent, always had been and refused all offers of support from Charles. She accepted him paying for the wining, dining, theatre and concerts but only because he wouldn't hear of her paying a penny!
He ran an electrical shop and when anything needed fixing he offered to replace it but she always refused!
This was strange for him being in a marriage where materialism ruled and for Jayne who had never needed anyone.
The more she saw of him the more she realised she wanted him in her life.
He was a member of a club and one night gave a comical narrative of how when removing a handkerchief from his jacket a black feather fluttered onto the table! The other members gave him knowing grins.
This was a club that organised many community events in the town and he was always at the helm!
Jayne often saw Charles at these events and round town and it set her juices flowing but they just smiled and passed a polite hello. The clandestine meetings added to the excitement!
They had been seeing each other a while either at Jayne's house or going out and she felt ready!
They enjoyed a bottle of wine that night and everything happened so naturally!

The Mistress
She couldn't stop thinking about him and there was strong chemistry! He hadn't denied his status and thought she already knew!
Hands shaking she picked up the phone, could she change her mind and accept the date, a woman's prerogative!
Charles suggested going for a drink away from town.
He picked her up and the conversation flowed. Jayne had made the right decision!
What a night, so much to talk about!
He had hesitated due to the age gap, quite a difference but not as much as he first thought! He had assumed she was in her early twenties rather than early thirties! Charles was in his forties!
He told her a little more about his marriage and it seemed her friends had been correct! He was married in name only, they lived separate lives and he had a business to consider! She still felt a little uneasy.
Charles regularly picked up Jayne and her child, Alison and gave them a lift, first to school then onto the next town where she worked. They were always early so started going to a local hotel for breakfast. As they walked from the car she linked arms or held his hand, he commented that he had never had that sort of attention from a woman!
Many nights had to be spent staying in with a bottle of wine and never ending conversation. Jayne never used babysitters so nights out were limited to weekends when her mum was called upon!
He certainly knew how to wine and dine her!
They went to a concert and she knew he was proud to have her on his arm. People stared, partly due to the stunning black dress she wore adorned with feathers, but she knew the main reason from the whispers that followed. Was she his daughter? No they were too familiar. There must be a huge age gap, wife, girlfriend or mistress? The women glanced and quickly averted their eyes, the men strutted as if to say 'wish that was me!'

What's for tea?
I'm afraid The Mistress will have to wait for later I can't be hugefoodlover and not blog about food!
Watching The Great British Bake Off with it's tarts, soggy bottoms & Henry Vlll I have just devoured my tea!
Under time constraint a pan of vegetables tonight... Boring you may think but a vegetarian's dream!
Small, round little organic pebbles of new potatoes, no peeling necessary; bright green brocolli florets; long, slender baby carrots from the pack to the pan; plump green peas carefully removed from their secure little jackets; a chunk of overgrown courgette, yes marrow, they say size isn't everything but I beg to differ with such soft, mellow flesh; ribbons of pale green cabbage and last but not least slender, succulent asparagus spears.
On the plate no gravy, no butter or margarine just a sprinkling of Herbamare!
Nothing else needed when using the best ingredients!
Who said food isn't sexy!

Wide awake
I'm wide awake wondering what to blog! I've often fancied writing a book but Im more geared towards short stories. So here goes and I make no apologies for what might develop!
The Mistress:
She couldn't believe it as the car slowed down and the door opened. Catching her breath as her heart missed a beat when his deep, dark voice spoke. Yes she would like a lift, the bus stop across town would be fine!
Jayne new this man but there had only ever been courteous exchanges in passing and she could never have hoped for more! The bus stop went by as Charles said that he would take her to work!
A few days passed and again this time going to drop her child at school first! He was happy to be seen with her! This was a small town and everybody knew each other!
A few days later he phoned her saying he'd had to have some 'Dutch courage'.
A date, he'd asked her on a date!
In town the next day Jayne spoke to a close friend to hear the bombshell, he was married! Her head was in a spin. Why was she not surprised, why should she find happiness!
Reluctantly she called him to say she could never be the 'other woman'.
Jayne couldn't understand, she had seen him many times, in his shop, at social events, in the street and never with anybody! She had to know more! She had to be discreet!
Friends said they didn't think he was married one even thought he lived with his mother! Then a couple said he was married but they lived separate lives and only ever went to certain functions together when it was deemed appropriate for a businessman!
Jayne was totally confused and wondered if she could encompass the guilt knowing what she knew!
